WORKSHOPS IN AVIGNON

SEPTEMBER 2026

THE CITY AS A DRAMATIC LANDSCAPE

From the 7 to 12 September 2026 at 116 rue de la Carreterie, 84000 Avignon

Teachers : For Jacques Lecoq school : François Lecomte et Paola Rizza

For the L.E.M : Pascale Lecoq

This course will be given in both French and English. This course is aimed at artists from all disciplines (actors, directors, scenographers, visual artists, circus artists…).

For the école Jacques Lecoq’s 70 years and the 50 years since the creation of the LEM

An exceptional event with the LEM, the laboratory for the study of movement

Autonomous scenography département evolved from the école Jacques Lecoq.

Lead by Pascale Lecoq, architect and visual artist, the L.E.M develops its work in experimental scenography.

Similar to the school’s teachings, the LEM will begin with observing and recognizing dynamics that surround us : spaces, forces, directions, the time of a place, the drama it carries.

We will engage with the city as a provocation: the streets, squares, passages, ramparts. Sauntering through the city, meeting the crowd, solitude, shadow and light. All of these observations leave us with specific emotions and begin to draw the traces of a particular geography.

The city will be our stage, our theatre.

The observations and impressions collected by the body in movement will be replayed physically.

The observations will be transposed in the atelier with drawings and constructions. Simple materials will be at hand for these exercises such as cardboard, pine sticks and string.

We will attempt to discover new dramatic writings by developing play with simple objects that will be in dialogue onstage.

This workshop is for artists from all disciplines (actors, directors, scenographers, visual artists, circus artists…)

All materials and tools necessary for the drawings and constructions will be provided by the school.

2pm to 7pm from Monday to Friday and 10am to 4pm on Saturday – 30 hours of class time

Fee: 680 euros

Reduced fee (students, depending on available places): 400€

To apply, please send an email to contact@ecole-jacqueslecoq.com with a CV (with your address, date of birth and telephone number), a cover letter and a photo (face)

THE LEM TODAY, RUN BY PASCALE LECOQ

Following the moving of the Jacques Lecoq School to Avignon in September 2023, the LEM became an independent experimental stage design department in Paris where we have our studio on the premises of the APEM (association pour l’étude du mouvement), it  continue to develop new international artistic collaborations. Based on the initial principles of linking movement, structures and space, its aim is to provoke creativity in any artist : actor, dancer, plastic artist, architect, author or teacher.

Today, the LEM takes a new direction and tackles new questions.Which relationship between material and stage? How confrontation with material and its transformation can help the actor’s creativity and performance.

The link between architecture and landscape : how observe space and transpose its dynamics into landscape art installations and performances. This is how the LEM in the near future aims to run experimental workshops for theatre companies, teachers and performances during artistic festivals.

THE PEDAGOGY :

The teaching method is based on movement and permits the students to experience in their bodies the surrounding environment.
The human body in action is analyse from a number of angles and its movements are explored in terms of their mechanical, dynamic, dramatic and poetic dimensions. In exploring these dimensions the students are brought to be aware of the forces and directions that compose the movements by what Jacques Lecoq called a “mimodynamic” approach.
